They opened fire after the lensmen snapped pictures from 300 feet away. Fortunately they were not hit, but the bullets took out the front and rear windows of their SUV just like on some television shows.
“Thank God I’m all right. At that moment, I thought I was going to die,” Rolando Aviles told The Post at the time. “If the bullet had been a little more to the left or right, it would have killed one of us. I said, ‘They’re going to kill us.’ ’’
Aviles said he and colleague Yuri Cortez, both veteran photographers working for an agency, had permission to shoot the ceremony from the owner of the property on which they were standing. Apparently the goon squad didn't care about any of that and now will have a few years to think about their crime, as well as how they will come up with the $10k fines they were eac h hit with!
